Letter to the Editor of the WSJ
The following is a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal, on “Republicans Against Donald Trump: ”
The Wall Street Journal (September 30, 2024) is reporting that a group calling itself “Republican Voters Against Trump” is using $15 million to persuade Republican voters to vote against Trump—in other words for Kamala Harris.
Let’s take a minute to consider what they are after.
Getting Republicans to vote against Trump might be a plausible position for actual Republicans if, after the election, it were clear that Republicans would be in control of the Senate and/or the House. Then, if this effort were successful, it would be relatively harmless--perhaps even sensible--if it defeats Trump but leaves the nation with the protection it needs against what would be the election of a leftwing (Progressive) Democratic President.
But if the result of this effort is really to use funds to elect KamalaHarris that would otherwise be employed in electing a GOP majority in the House, the Senate, or both, it calls into question whether this group is really made up of Republicans, or is simply a Democratic Party organization masquerading as a GOP group.
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell who the organizers of this group really are, or whether any of them is a Republican. The only useful test is the usual “Who Benefits?” idea, and that clearly points to a group of Democrats who are hoping to deprive Republican Senate and House candidates of badly needed campaign funds.
